Mediation

Transform conflict through open dialogue & mutual responsibility

Community-based mediation is a voluntary, confidential process that helps individuals in conflict reach a collaborative resolution with the help of a neutral third-party mediator. Whether it’s a disagreement between neighbors, family members, community members, or local organizations, the Holistic Collective provides a safe and respectful space to listen, be heard, and find common ground.

Our trained mediators facilitate respectful communication and support both parties in crafting practical, lasting solutions. Unlike legal proceedings, community mediation focuses on collaboration rather than blame, aiming to strengthen relationships and restore harmony.

Benefits of community-based mediation:

  • Confidential, informal, and non-adversarial

  • Cost-effective and higher satisfaction with outcomes, compared to criminal-legal options

  • Empowers participants to create their own agreement

  • Builds trust and fosters long-term resolution

  • Opportunities to grow in conflict resolution skills

Mediation Process: Step-by-Step

1. Initial Pre-Visits

Each participant meets individually with a certified mediator. These confidential meetings allow the facilitator to understand each person’s perspective, clarify the issues, and assess readiness for mediation.

Number of pre-visits may vary depending on individual needs, but typically includes 1–2 sessions per person.

2. Mediation Session

Both parties come together in a neutral setting for a guided conversation. The facilitator helps ensure respectful dialogue and supports participants in identifying shared goals and resolving the conflict.

Most mediation sessions last approximately 2–3 hours.

3. Agreement

If a resolution is reached, the participants may choose to create a written agreement outlining the terms they’ve decided on together. This agreement is voluntary and can be signed by both parties.

4. Follow-Up

After the mediation, the facilitator checks in with each participant individually to review how the agreement is working, offer additional support, and ensure continued progress.

Holistic Collective mediators cannot guarantee follow through from participants in cases of a written agreement. It is the responsibility of the participants to honor the agreement.
